We started our July Monthly tournament on time, and almost stayed on time! Admittedly we were five minutes late for our final tee time. Still, course management was shocked.
As suggested by our "Pace of Play Committee", and with the help of a Rancho Park Golf starter (Dave Wexler), players were waved up on the first two holes. This was successful in keeping the tee box clear and on time. After Dave teed off the check in table continued to past on the word, and I have to admit everyone followed instruction beautifully.
The city representative, James Ward, invited Joe Hart, Gonzo, and myself to a meeting to discuss our problem of falling behind with our tee times. We explained our pink slips in the two June tournament and the new wave up policy. Uriel showed Mr. Ward the pink slips. James is considering trying our system on the other city courses. He was pleased that we are attempting to speed up play. The city seemed unaware that we were using eight minute tee times. To prevent the confusion we had at our June Sunday tournament we agreed to email Rick, Chuck and Uriel our start time, number of players, and eight minute tee times, eight or more days in advance.
We told James Ward that the cart barn has graciously provided the club with a cart to monitor tournaments during the last two years. In the future he'll let us use one of the marshals carts for our tournaments. We recommended that Rancho, being a premier course, should go to a eight minute tee time. The city will evaluate the idea and make a decision at a later date.
Everyone seemed pleased.
